Anyone working within the school system understands the expectations for doing our best with every child. We try our best to encompass all areas of development for the children in our care. Yet, with limited resources, cutbacks, and at times, exhausting challenges faced with the many needs of children, it can be daunting.
Behaviour management, within a classroom or school setting can take up more time, than the actual teaching of curriculum in itself. The more staff has to address behavioural concerns, disruptive behaviour of one or more students, the less teaching time can take place, not only for the challenging student/s, but for the entire class as a whole. This is just a sad reality, no matter how exceptional the staff.
More often than not, new teachers enter the school system, with minimal experience and knowledge to implement pro-active and positive behavioural support for children within their classroom.
Every child deserves to have our full attention and support. How do we do this with so many diverse needs within a single classroom? What can help when behavioural students do not generate funding to get appropriate support? What support can help reduce disruptive behaviour, and encourage positive behavioural outcomes? What really works and is manageable? Is there anything that can be done to free up more of your time in order to educate more effectively?
Yvette has been working within the school system supporting children, teachers and support staff since 1991. Yvette was trained in PBS, Positive Behaviour Support, by Randy Sprick and has given numerous PBS workshops to help with behavioural issues within the school setting. Yvette has also learned from the best teachers, support staff, Administrators and most importantly, children for over 30 years. Yvette specializes in dealing with severe behaviour, but ensures that a class wide approach is implemented, to enrich all students learning valuable life and Social & Emotional skills. Teachers, support staff, Administrators and parents, are amazed at the results that can come about within a very short period of time.
Children look forward to going to school and are empowered to excel in all areas of academic and social skills, which drastically improve their self esteem and self confidence. Statistics confirm that children with low self confidence are more prone to delinquency, eating disorders, low academic achievement, dropout rates, gangs, promiscuous sexual encounters, drugs, self abuse, running away, risky behaviour, and suicide.
"How we feel, determines how we behave...especially when we are young. Let us ensure that we can prevent, eliminate or minimize even those issues." Yvette Mercier
