The Truth About Parenting

Remember back to the moment you found out you were with child...the excitement. The bliss. Daydreaming of how wonderful it would be.

 

Then came the beliefs of how amazing a parent you would be...not like some parents! How perfect your child would be...because you were going to be so amazing! No yelling. No crazed behaviour. No loss of control or sanity. No 2 year old calling the shots. NO WAY. NOT this parent! Not my child!

We have all been there. There is not a parent I know, who has not admitted, that parenting is much more difficult than they ever thought. Amazing...wonderful, and they would never change having a child or children...but at times, more challenging than anything they have ever experienced.  

​

Yet many parents struggle on their own. There is a stigma about taking parenting courses. Pre-natal course is a given...but a

pre-parenting course to ensure you are a proactive parent...notsomuch. Seeking advice, support and knowledge prior to being overwhelmed should be, can be, the best course of action....for anything. Why would we not do this for the most important job we will ever have?

We take courses on so much. Dog training. Computer courses. Driving. Pottery and art. Yet the one thing that we should learn as much as possible about, we feel reservations about doing so for fear of looking ignorant, or not a good enough parent. There is not a parent I know, that upon having children, knew everything there was to know. Not even the so called "experts". There is no perfect parent...no perfect child. What works with one child may not work for his or her sibling.

I want to help change that mind set. I want to Mpower people.  Mpower parents to know it is ok not to be perfect and to keep a sense of humour. I want to help parents understand they are not alone when they feel frustrated, angry, hurt, bewildered. I want to ensure that parents do the very best for their children by being proactive, honest  about weaknesses and humble about their strengths. I want parents to be able to reach out and ask for support, share their experiences, their joy, their frustrations and their knowledge.

I invite you to enjoy learning new, easy and effective strategies that will ensure your child excels socially, personally and with life skills that can make all the difference in their future. I hope to make your job as a parent a little easier too. There are some strategies that work like magic!
